The Bangladesh Government's Computer Incident Response Team (BGD e-GOV CIRT) issued an alert to warn critical information infrastructures (CII), banks and financial institutions, health care, and all kinds of government and private organizations of the potential cyberattack in response to a declaration made by some religious and ideologically motivated underground hacker groups on July 31 to launch "a storm of cyber-attacks" against Bangladesh cyberspace on August 15.

All businesses are encouraged to adopt the necessary security measures to safeguard their infrastructures from small- to medium-sized cyberattacks coming from hacktivist groups.

The CIRT alert said these groups have been targeting organizations from Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

"In our recent research, we identified several groups with the same motivation. They have been incessantly conducting frequent cyber-attacks against organizations in Bangladesh affecting its operations and businesses," it said.

DDoS assaults, website defacements, website compromises, and employing malicious PHP shells as a backdoor to dump payloads are allegedly among the group's main offensive strategies.

Government and Military, Law Enforcement Agencies, Banking and NBFI, Pharmaceuticals, Retail and Industrial Organizations, and the Energy and Education sectors are the most targeted organization categories, according to CIRT.
