Fuel Traders on Indefinite Strike

Fuel oil traders are on strike for an indefinite period by stopping the extraction and transportation of oil from depots on three-point demand.

Meanwhile, the extraction and supply of oil from Padma, Meghna, and Jamuna oil depots in Khulna have been stopped.

Today, Sunday (September 3), the leader of the Petrol Pump Owners Association, Md. Muraduzzaman Murad, confirmed the news. Earlier, the strike started at 8 a.m. on the same day.

The three-point demands are to make the current commission on the sale of fuel oil at least 7.5 percent, to make the economic life of Tank Lorries transporting fuel oil 50 years, and to publish clear gazettes as per the commitment of fuel oil traders under the commission agent rules.

It is reported that since Sunday morning, the Bangladesh Tank Lorry Owners Association, Bangladesh Fuel Distributors Association, Khulna Divisional Tank Lorry Workers Union, and Padma, Meghna, and Jamuna Tank Lorry Workers Welfare Association have been observing the strike.

Md. Muraduzzaman Murad said that the three-point demand has been there for a long time. As the government did not fulfill the demand within the deadline of August 31, oil extraction and transportation from the depot have been stopped indefinitely since 8 a.m. on Sunday. However, the program will continue until the demand is met.
