The establishment of a democratic transition is now considered a fundamental requirement for fostering an inclusive and sustainable economy.

Noted economist Debapriya Bhattacharya, who serves as the convener of the Citizen's Platform for SDGs in Bangladesh, made the remarks during a presentation at a book launch event held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in the capital city.

The economist argued that a lack of comprehensive democratic accountability and effective governance has resulted in the underperformance of public institutions and the inadequate protection of the rights of marginalized groups and citizens. This deficiency can be attributed to insufficient resources allocated to critical sectors and regions, subpar implementation of policies and projects, and inconsistencies between policy development and developmental planning, as per his assessment.

Additionally, the event featured speeches from several prominent figures, including CPD Chairman Prof Rehman Sobhan, former Executive Director of Ain o Salish Kendra and former caretaker government Sultana Kamal, Bangla Academy President Selina Hossain, Theatre Activist Mamunur Rashid, and CPD Distinguished Fellow Mustafizur Rahman.
