VC Backed Pro-AL Teachers Sweep JU Senate polls

The ruling pro-Awami League and Vice Chancellor backed teachers at Jahangirnagar University (JU) swept the polls to the teachers' representative in JU senate.

The returning officer of the election and acting registrar of the university Abu Hassan announced the results after counting the votes at 10:30pm at the Senate Hall of the university On Monday (October 16).

The pro Awami League teachers' panel 'Bangabandhu Shikkhak Parishad' bagged 24 out of 33 posts of university's senate.

The pro-Bangladesh Nationalist Party and a section of pro Awami League teachers' combined panel 'Shikkhak Oikya Parishad', won 8 seats in the election.

Besides, Professor Golam Rabbani, an independent candidate of History Department was also elected as the senate member.

Earlier, a total of 577 out of 613 voters cast their votes from 9:30am to 2:30pm to elect 33 candidates as Senate members at the Teachers' Club of the university.

The last Teachers' Representative Election of the JU Senate was held in 2015 although the election should be held every three years.
