There was a head-on collision between two trains at Bhairab in Kishoreganj. At least 15 people were killed. However, the death toll in the accident is likely to rise.

The collision took place between an inter-city Egarsindhur Express train and a freight train on Monday (October 23) around 4 pm.

Bhairab Bazar River Fire Service in-charge Azizul Haque confirmed the recovery of 15 bodies.

Eyewitnesses said that a freight train coming from the opposite direction collided at the moment the Dhaka-bound Egarsindur Express left the Bhairab station at around 2:30 p.m. In this, several compartments of Egarsindu were twisted.

Many passengers were trapped under the overturned coach. Apart from this, many dead bodies were seen lying on the railway line. The names of the dead and injured were not immediately known.

Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police Mohammad Russell Sheikh said many others were injured in the incident. He said that according to the preliminary information, I have received information from Bhairab police station that more than 15 passengers have been killed.

Bhairab Railway Police Station OC Alim Hossain Sikder said the number of casualties may increase.
