The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has granted its approval for the importation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the international spot market.

TotalEnergies Gas and Power Ltd, based in Switzerland, will be the supplier, with a total cost of Tk 470.48 crore. The LNG cargo, amounting to approximately 33.60 lakh MMbtu, will have a unit cost of $10.88.

This approval was obtained during the initial in-person meeting at the Cabinet Division following the Covid-19 pandemic. The session was chaired by the new Finance Minister, Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali.

Additionally, in preparation for Ramadan, the government has sanctioned the import of 10,000 tonnes of lentils and 1.20 crore litres of rice-bran oil. The import costs for lentils and rice-bran oil are Tk 105.45 crore and Tk 189.60 crore, respectively.
