A group of 139 Bangladeshi nationals, who were irregularly detained in Tripoli and Benghazi detention centers in Libya, have successfully returned to Bangladesh.

A chartered flight operated by Buraq Air transported them to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at approximately 4:15 am on Thursday, February 1.

This marks a significant development, as a total of 1,245 Bangladeshi citizens have now returned from Libya since July 2023.

The return was made possible through collaborative efforts involving the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, the Libyan government, and direct cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Upon their arrival at Dhaka airport, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and IOM extended a warm welcome to these returning Bangladeshis.

In a gesture of support, the IOM provided each individual with Tk 6,000 as pocket money along with some food items to assist them in their reintegration process.
