Former Awami League MP from Chandpur-4 (Faridganj) and former district Awami League president Dr Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan passed away at a private hospital in Dhaka on Friday.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, and a host of relatives and friends. 

His namaz-e-janaza will be held in Faridganj on Friday afternoon. His home is in Kaunia village of Rupsha South Union of Faridganj, reports the media.

According to relatives, Shamsul was suffering from an incurable disease.

He was the founder of Faridganj Gardkalindia Hazera-Hasmat Degree College; former chief engineer of Dhaka City Corporation, former senate member of Dhaka University, and founder of Apollo Group of Industries.

He was elected MP from Faridganj in 2014.

In the 12th parliamentary election of 2024, he contested as an independent candidate from Chandpur-4 (Faridganj) and Chandpur-3 (Sadar-Haimchar) constituencies as an independent candidate and was defeated._UNB
