HC Forms New Committee To Probe Ayaan's Death

The High Court (HC) today formed a probe committee afresh to investigate the death of five-year old boy Ayaan Ahmed following a circumcision at United Hospital in the capital on January 8.

A High Court division bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah passed the order this morning.

The newly formed committee consists of three doctors, two civil society persons and a university professor.

The committee has been asked to investigate the entire incident and to find out whether their were any negligence of doctors which claimed the life of the child.

The court has also asked the committee to submit a report within 30 days.

Earlier, the High Court said that the report that the investigation committee of the Directorate of Health submitted was 'ridiculous' and it had been published as 'eyewash' to people.

Advocate ABM Shahjahan Akand Masum filed a writ seeking directions to compensate the victim's family.

Health Secretary, Director General of Health Department and the concerned parties were made respondents in the writ.

5-year old Ayaan was taken to city's Badda United Medical College Hospital for Sunnah circumcision. After receiving anesthesia before the surgery there, he never regained consciousness.

After being on life support for seven days, he died at the hospital on January 8._BSS
