A 10-year-old boy passed away last night after supposedly being administered general anesthesia during a circumcision operation at a private hospital in Malibagh, the capital.

Following the death of Ahnaf Tahmin Ayham, a fourth-grade student at Motijheel Ideal School and College, police arrested two doctors from JS Hospital and Medical Checkup Centre (JSHMCC).

The Directorate General of Health Services declared the JSHMCC closed, as stated by DGHS Director (Hospitals) Abu Hussain Md Moinul Ahsan.

Awlad Hussain, OC of Hatirjheel Police Station, mentioned that they arrested two doctors, SM Muktadir and Mahbub, based on a case filed by Ahnaf's father Fakhrul Islam, which included the names of three doctors and five other unidentified individuals.

According to the family, the boy died during the circumcision. The suspects are currently under interrogation.

Per the boy's parents, police, and relatives, the doctors took him to the operating room at 8:00 pm. However, he never woke up after the anesthesia was administered. One hour later, he was declared dead by hospital authorities.

The family alleges they requested the doctors not to fully anesthetize him and to instead use local anesthesia. Unfortunately, their pleas were ignored.

This is the second recorded child fatality in the capital due to a circumcision operation since December 31 of the previous year. On that day, 5-year-old Ayaan, a student at a private school, died at United Medical College Hospital in Badda due to excessive anesthesia being administered without his parents' consent.
