Cox's Bazar Sea Beach's Sugandha Point renaming proposal to 'Bangabandhu Beach' has been shelved. After much deliberation and consultation, the proposal was retracted on Monday (February 26) by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.

The Bangabandhu Memorial Trust's permission is required for any establishment under the name of Bangabandhu, which was not obtained in this case. Therefore, the previous directive to rename the beach was annulled by the Ministry.

Earlier, last Tuesday (February 20), the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs issued an advertisement renaming Cox's Bazar Sea Beach's Sugandha Point to 'Bangabandhu Beach'. Similarly, the area from Kolatoli to Sugandha Point was renamed as 'Bir Muktijoddha Beach'.

At that time, it was stated in the advertisement that Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council Chairman Md. Solaiman Mia had applied for the name change. During the 13th meeting of the Permanent Committee of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, Sugandha Beach was renamed 'Bangabandhu Beach' and the vacant space between Sugandha Beach and Kolatoli Beach was renamed 'Bir Muktijoddha Beach'.

Instructions were given to the District Administrator and others to take necessary measures regarding this matter.
