There is no specific threat of an attack during Pohela Boishakh celebrations, but still the security measures have been taken considering the incidents of past incidents, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman has said.
He made the comments to journalists after inspecting the security arrangements at Ramna Batamul on Saturday.
The DMP commissioner said Pohela Boishakh is the expression of the non-communal spirit of Bangali nation. For this reason, the event is being interrupted repeatedly, and militant attacks have occurred.
So the security plan of the law enforcement agencies has been arranged keeping everything of the past in mind, he added.
In the places where the event will be held, the security of the entire area will be monitored by CCTV. Apart from this, the surrounding areas will be monitored through watchtowers and drones. The Bomb Disposal Unit will be on standby as well.
Traffic movement in Dhaka University and Ramna areas will be controlled from Saturday evening.
