Govt Announces Compensations For Faridpur Road Accident Victims

Thirteen individuals, including five members of a single family, lost their lives in a tragic head-on collision between a bus and a pickup truck on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Kanaipur Union, Faridpur Sadar upazila, at 8 am on Tuesday.

Among the deceased family members were Rkibul Islam Milon (40), his wife Sumi Begum (30), and their two sons Abu Raihan (6) and Abu Sinan Ruhan (5). Additionally, Marjina Begum (70), the wife of Wahab Molla from Bejidanga village in Boalmari, Faridpur, also lost her life in the accident. Rafiq, who worked as a liftman in a government office in Dhaka, was traveling with his mother, wife, and two sons in the pickup van, intending to return to Dhaka after the Eid holiday.

Reports from the local area suggest that a Magura-bound Unique Paribahan bus collided with the Dhaka-bound pickup, resulting in the deaths of 11 individuals at the scene, with two more succumbing to their injuries later at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital.

In response to the tragedy, Faridpur District Commissioner Kamrul Ahsan Talukdar announced immediate support of 20,000 taka for the burial arrangements of the deceased. Additionally, the administration pledged to provide 5 lakh taka as compensation to the families of each deceased victim and 3 lakh taka to those who sustained severe injuries.
