The costs of train passengers travelling over 100 kilometres are likely to go up from May 4, as Bangladesh Railway will not provide the existing rebate facility from that day.

The passengers are getting the rebate facility for travelling more than 100 kilometres since 1992. The railway currently provides a 20 per cent rebate for travel between 101km and 250km, 25 per cent for 251km to 400km and 30 per cent for more than 400km.

In a circular published in a national daily on Monday, the railway authorities said the distance-based rebate facility will not be available from May 4.

Due to the unavailability of the facility, passengers will have to pay higher fares for travelling more than 100km. However, the fare up to 100km will remain unchanged.
