An incident of fire broke out at Rohingya Camp No. 13 in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar. It took nearly two hours of effort before the fire service was able to bring the fire under control. Despite claims of over 5% of shelters being destroyed, the upazila administration stated that they have begun assessing the extent of the damage after controlling the fire. The amount of damage will be known by the evening.
On Friday (May 24), at around 11 AM, a fire incident was reported from an office in Rohingya Camp No. 13 in Ukhiya. Firefighters arrived at the scene around 1 PM to control the fire. Multiple teams are working on firefighting efforts.
According to Rohingyas, smoke was seen suddenly emanating from an office, which quickly escalated into a fire. Within moments, the fire spread. As a result, there has been material damage, including some shops being burnt, though fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties.
Tanvir Hossain, UNO of Ukhiya Upazila, confirmed that efforts to control the fire are underway, and assessment of the damage is ongoing. However, there have been no reports of casualties.
