A Woman vice chairman candidate of the upazila parishad polls in Brahmanbaria named Preeti Khandaker, has reportedly gone missing while campaigning for votes. Preeti Khandkar's husband Masud Khandkar confirmed the disappearance of his wife and said that there was no trace of Preeti from 2 pm on Tuesday (May 28) to 10:30 am on Wednesday (May 29). She went to Harashpur union in Bijoynagar upazila for election campaigning yesterday (28 May) but hasn't returned since.

"My wife Preeti has been contesting for the vice chairman post under the "lotus" symbol in Bijoynagar upazila elections is scheduled for 5 June. Three other women candidates are also competing for the post. Before the election, Preeti was campaigning day and night in the upazila. On Tuesday afternoon, Preeti went to the election campaign in Harshpur Union with two associates. After entering Harshpur's Rishipara, her two female assistants were standing outside while Preeti was inside talking to voters."

After 10-20 minutes, when Preeti did not come out, two women went inside and could not find Preeti. After searching for a long time, they returned home without finding Preeti.

"We waited till evening to get in touch with her. Later, we informed the assistant returning officer and officer-in-charge of the local police station. We also filed a general diary this morning," her husband added.

Assistant Returning Officer and UNO Syed Mahabubul Haque said that the candidate's husband informed me about the disappearance. I asked him to contact the police station.

Bijoynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asadul Islam said efforts are underway to locate her and bring her back safely.
