The Detective Branch (DB) of Police has filed an application for seeking fresh five-day remand for Kazi Kamal Ahmed alias Gas Babu, an Awami League (AL) leader from Jhenaidah, in a case filed over the abduction of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar for murder.
Kamal, the Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary of Jhenaidah AL, is the cousin of US citizen Aktaruzzaman Shahin, the mastermind of MP Anar murder.
Mahfuzur Rahman, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Detective Branch of Police and also the Investigation Officer of the case, filed the remand prayer.
Hearing would be held in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka in this regard on Monday (June 24).
Earlier on June 9, Gas Babu was placed on a seven-day remand in the case. During the remand, Babu agreed to give a confessional statement under Section 164 and confessed to his involvement in the murder in court.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim on June 14 recorded the statement upon a plea from Detective Branch Assistant Police Commissioner Mahfuzur Rahman.
Earlier the three accused Shimul Bhuiyan, Celesty Rahman and Tanvir Bhuiyan, arrested in Bangladesh, confessed to their crimes in MP Anar murder case. On June 7, detectives picked up Kamal from the Adarshapara area in Jhenaidah in connection with the case.
