The people of Palestine are standing by Bangladesh as the country battles a deadly flood that has affected millions and claimed at least 52 lives.

Palestinian Ambassador to Bangladesh Yousef SY Ramadan handed over relief goods to As-Sunnah Foundation, the non-profit organisation said in a Facebook post on Thursday (August 29).

It wrote that the Palestinian flag is inscribed on the gift packages for flood victims. “Love for Palestine from Bangladesh,” it said.

Tens of thousands of people are stranded and suffering from an acute shortage of food and drinking water in the flood-hit areas.

Ambassador Ramadan expressed his sympathies to the people of Bangladesh and said, “Bangladesh and Palestine have historical ties, and we want to stand by them in times of crisis.”

Meanwhile, the Israel-Palestine conflict has displaced millions of people, creating a long-term humanitarian crisis. Since a Hamas attack on October 7, Israel’s devastating offensive has killed 40,534 people in Gaza, the Health Ministry said, with some 93,778 others having been injured in the ongoing assault.

Bangladesh is a staunch supporter of the Palestine cause.
