The Rapid Action Battalion says it has arrested former Jhenaidah-1 MP Nayeb Ali Joarder in an incident over violence during the quota reform movement.
The RAB has also arrested a police official accused of ‘burning a body’ in Ashulia and three others in different incidents of violence in Dhaka’s Jatrabari.
The raids were carried out from midnight on Thursday to early on Friday morning, the RAB said.
Nayeb Ali, accused in a case of attack, vandalism, and arson in the Jhenaidah Sadar area on Aug 4, was arrested from the Arappur Bus Stand area.
A RAB-6 team arrested him around midnight.
In a separate statement, RAB-3 said it had arrested Inspector Arafat Hossain, accused in an Ashulia ‘body burning’ case, from Dhaka’s Aftabnagar.
The RAB did not say when he was arrested.
Another individual named Liton Akondo, accused of attacking Anti-discrimination Student Movement protesters with sharp weapons, was arrested around 2am in Jatrabari alongside two accomplices.
The RAB said they were arrested in possession of makeshift weapons, drugs, and gunpowder.
