A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed Rongdhanu Group Director Mizanur Rahman Mizan on a two-day remand. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider granted the remand.
Mizan was placed on remand in a case filed with Khilkhet Police Station in the capital, on charges of demanding a ransom of taka five crore.
The Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested Mizan on Tuesday. He is accused in over 20 cases including murder.
A DB team carried out a raid in the Bhatara area of Dhaka this noon and arrested Mizan, also former chairman of Rupganj Upazila Parishad, said Mohammad Obaidur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Media and Public Relations Division.
Later, the law enforcers took him to the DB office on Mintu Road.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has recently started investigation into a money laundering case lodged against him.
