The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have filed a murder case against 33 people, including eight students, in connection with the murder of former student and Chhatra League leader Shamim Mollah.

Ashulia Police Station received the case on Friday (September 20) morning. Earlier, the university's deputy registrar (security-1) Sudipta Shaheen filed the complaint.

In the case, eight temporarily expelled students, including a coordinator, and 20-25 unidentified people have been made accused.

Shamim Ahmed, alias Shamim Mollah, former organising secretary of the JU unit of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, was beaten by a mob on Wednesday (September 18) evening. He died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Savar around 12am.

It is reported that some students saw Shamim in the terminal gate area of the university. At that time, an angry mob beat him up and took him to the proctor’s office. Later, the proctorial body handed him over to the police. Later, he was admitted to Savar Gonoshasthaya Hospital in critical condition, where he died while undergoing treatment.
