Khulna keep winning spree

Two national team senior players Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad’s Rajshahi Division and Dhaka Metropolis were outplayed by Khulna and Sylhet Divisions respectively at the second round of the National Cricket League (NCL) yesterday.

Mahmudullah Riyad’s ton went in vain after Sylhet beat Dhaka Metro by 8 wickets at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura while Khulna bowlers handed Rajshahi a seven-wicket defeat at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.

Mahmudullah Riyad, after scoring a fifty in the first innings slammed a brilliant ton in the second knock, remaining unbeaten on 95 after day three, couldn’t survive defeat after Sylhet comfortably reached the target of 200 with 8 wickets in hand.

Imtiaz Hossain hit an unbeaten 110 while Zakir Hasan made 72 to secure Sylhet’s first win the tournament.

The wicket-keeper batsman also earned Player of the Match award for scoring 71 and 72.

In Tier 1 encounter, controlled bowling spells in the both innings helped Khulna outclass Rajshahi at own backyard to acquire second consecutive victories in the NCL.

Khulna, requiring only 108 runs on day four, made it two in two in the tournament edging past Rajshahi by seven wickets in hand.

For Khulna, Soumya came back into the runs remaining unbeaten on 50 after went out for a golden duck in the first knock.

Al Amin Hossain, Abdur Razzak shared five wickets each while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman claimed four wickets respectively in their combined innings to bowl out Rajshahi for 261 and 170.

Mushfiqur Rahim scored 24 and 44 for Rajshahi in his two innings.

Khulna’s Nurul Hasan Sohan named Man of the Match for his unbeaten 97 in the first knock.

In a run-fest encounter, Dhaka Division and Rangpur Division Tier 1 match ended in a draw after both the sides scored over 500 in their respective innings at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

The match witnessed one double ton of Saif Hasan (220 not out) of Dhaka, two centuries of Liton Das (122) and Naeem Islam (135) of Rangpur and a total of five half centuries- Rony Talukdar (65), Raqibul Hasan (57), Nadif Chowdhury (61), Tanbir Hayder (73) and Sohrawordi Shuvo (92 not out).

Saif Hasan received Man of the Match award for his outstanding 220 in the first knock.

Tamim Iqbal less Chattogram Division shared points with Barishal Division in a Tier 2 clash at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.

Chattogram declared their second innings on 195 for 6 having an eye to win over Barishal after scoring 356 and restricting the opposition for 216 in the first knock. But, Mohammad Ashraful and Shahriar Nafees’ invaluable 113-run stand saved Barishal from a possible defeat. Ashraful (60) scored maiden fifty in the tournament while Nafees contributed with the bat scoring 42.

Nayeem Hasan claimed five-for in his both innings and shared Player of the Match  award with his team-mate Mahidul Islam Ankon who scored 91 and 43 in both knocks.
