Hamza, Bavuma counterattack with fifty partnership

South Africa is trailling by 404 nruns behijd (till this report was being written) as they lost 34 wickets scoring 93 runs after 21st over on third day of  the second test against India.

Zubayr Hamza and Temba Bavuma have shared a fourth-wicket stand of 52 runs in 10 overs, scoring at quite a clip of over five runs an over. This is the highest fourth-wicket stand for South Africa in the series and the fourth-highest overall.

These two seem to complement each other well: Hamza is the more aggressive player, giving Bavuma the time to really settle. Hamza seems to be in control of his game, strong on the front foot and confident and though Bavuma continues to score slowly, he is taking risks. The reverse-sweep off Ashwin, despite having a second-slip in place, is an example.

So apart from that first over jaffa that got rid of Faf, the South Africans have actually been quite positive here. They've survived the initial pace threat, and have done it with good intent. But then another 412 in the deficit is a mountain still steep enough ..
