Sevilla Bag 6th Europa League Trophy

Spain's football club Sevilla was voted 2020 winners of the UEFA Europa League Friday with a 3-2 victory over Italy's Inter Milan, reports Anadolu Agency.

Seville has been accustomed to retaining the championship as the most successful squad in the second-tier top club competition in Europe, having captured the award five times over the last 15 years.

For the 2020 triumph, Sevilla secured the six finals of the Europa League in which they played.

Inter grabbed the lead early in the final when the Belgian hero Romelu Lukaku scored the penalty in the German city of Cologne.

Sevilla responded quickly in the twelfth minute as Dutch forward Luuk de Jong found Inter's diving net to defeat Slovenian goaltender Samir Handanovic.

De Jong is the first Dutch player to score in the final of the Europa League since 2002 when Pierre van Hooijdonk did so 18 years earlier.

In the 33rd minute, De Jong marked it 2-1 for Seville with another header.

Three minutes later, the Uruguayan center back Diego Godin moved the gap, scoring a header to end the first half of the game.

The game-winner came in the 74th minute when Lukaku scored an own goal as Sevilla defender Diego Carlos' bicycle kick hit Lukaku, who was in front of Inter’s goal.

Lakaku’s misfortune secured the win for Sevilla in the Europa League campaign.

Captain Jesus Navas lifted the cup as Sevilla players celebrated in the title ceremony.

It was the first Europa League final since 1998 when Inter captured the trophy, then known as the UEFA Cup, defeating Lazio 3-0 in the all-Italian final in Paris.

The UEFA Cup was dubbed the UEFA Europa League in the 2009-10 season.

The Italian club won the UEFA Cup three times in the 1990s, but Antonio Conte's men skipped a chance to end Inter's 22-year-old dry season with a fourth championship.
