Pakistan will face Australia in the
World Cup Twenty20 semifinals on Thursday (November 11) in Dubai, United Arab
Emirates.
But before that came the bad news for
the Pakistan team. Mohammad Rizwan and Shoaib Malik, two of the heroes of
Pakistan's success in the World Cup this time, have contracted fever. Due to
mild fever, they could not stay in regular practice on Wednesday (November 10).
Both the cricketers were tested for
Covid-19 due to fever. The good news for Pakistan is that their results have
been negative.
The team's doctor Najib Somro advised
them to rest. The team management will confirm today whether they will be able
to play the match against Australia. Keeper-batsman Rizwan and veteran Shoaib
are Pakistan's first XI cricketers. Although the Corona test results are
negative, there is some uncertainty as to whether they will be on the field if
they have a fever.
However, the Pakistan team management
said that the team will wait for these two in the end. Pakistan expects the
best from them if the fever goes away even if they don't practice.
Rizwan has the highest run in the International T20 this
year. Malik is also spreading light in the World Cup by keeping his fitness
even at the age of 40. In the last match of the group stage against Scotland,
an explosive innings of 54 runs from 18 balls came from his bat. Earlier, he
also contributed in the match against Afghanistan. This time his strike rate is
187 in the World Cup.
Against Australia, Babar Azam's team will want to get these
two on the field anyway.
Sources said that if the two cricketers could not play,
Sarfaraz Ahmed and Haider Ali would be played as their alternatives. Shoaib and
Rizwan will have to undergo another physical test before the match.
