Bangladesh came up with toothless bowling in an otherwise good batting track, allowing Pakistan to hurl the baton in the opening Test.

After being dismissed for 330, they saw Pakistan openers playing out the second and third session comfortably to pile up 145 for no loss at the end of day two at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here today.

When it needed some intelligent bowling in this docile pitch, Bangladesh bowlers looked out of the plan and dug their own graveyards.

Openers Abid Ali and debutant Abdullah Shafique who were hardly challenged cut the deficit to 185 runs at stumps, owing to bad light.

Abid who reached the 1000-run mark in the 15th test, closed in on his fourth century, remaining unbeaten on 93. Shafique overcame a nervy start to finish the day on 52.

Abid struck the first three boundaries when Shafique struggled to get off the mark. Shafique flicked through midwicket for four of pacer Abu Jayed and grew with confidence.

Abid was fluent in his approach and glanced off-spinner Mehidy Hasan for a couple to reach his third half-century off 84 balls. Shafique however brought up his half-century in debut in style, clubbing occasional bowler Mominul Haque for maximum. Bangladesh's only sniff was squandered when they chose not to review a leg-before decision against Shafique.

The TV replay showed the quicker delivery of left-arm spinner Taijul Islam hit the pad of Shafique first who was then batting on 9.

However, Bangladesh's bowling was not as menacing as it should be in the flat deck.

After resuming the day on 253-4, Bangladesh's chance of racking up a substantial total was dashed with the home side adding just 77 runs for the rest of the six wickets.

Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali claimed 5-51 to wreck havoc on Bangladesh's batting and wrapped up the hosts in the morning session.

Hasan Ali's sixth five-for was well complemented by his new-ball partner Shaheen Shah Afridi who returned figures of 2-70 and medium-pacer Faheem Ashraf, 2-54.

For Bangladesh, Liton Das top-scored with 114 after hitting his maiden century and Mushfiqur Rahim added 91. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was not out on 38.

As Bangladesh appeared to extend their domination after a good first day, Hasan Ali gave them a setback in second over, dismissing Liton, who came to the crease with an aim to make his score bigger.

Liton, starting the day with 113, could add just one run before Hasan had him leg-before, which umpire disagreed, only for the decision to be overturned on review.

Debutant Yasir Ali spent some nervy moments in the crease and survived a leg-before review by Pakistan. He however got off the mark in international cricket with a cover-drive four off Shaheen Shah Afridi in the 14th ball he faced.

But Hasan who tested him with short balls finally rattled his stump with a delivery that jagged in sharply.

Bangladesh relied on overnight unbeaten batter Mushfiqur to take the side to safety and he grew with confidence, hitting Afridi for a boundary through backward point.

He though survived some testing spells of Afridi and Hasan Ali in the morning session, couldn't make it count.

Medium-pacer Faheem Ashraf moved the ball nicely to coax an edge from him as Mushfiqur who reviewed the decision in vain fell short nine runs for his eighth century.

After losing three wickets for just 23 runs, the much-needed resistance came from Mehidy Hasan who guided lower-order astutely amid the well-directed short ball barrage of Afridi and Ali.

But Hasan Ali cleaned up the tail in the extended morning session and made sure that Pakistan would have lunch after dismissing Bangladesh.
