Shakib Al Hasan had earlier verbally informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that he wanted to skip the New Zealand tour. But the exact reason why Shakib does not want to skip the test series did not inform the BCB in writing. However, an hour after the announcement of the team, the world's best all-rounder has officially applied to skip the New Zealand series, citing 'family reasons'.
BCB director Jalal Yunus confirmed the matter on Saturday (December 4).
He said Shakib had applied for a leave. We will make a decision soon.
Shakib has applied four times so far and got leave three times. Earlier,
he was granted leave in the Sri Lanka, South Africa and New Zealand series. The
world's best cricketer wanted to leave again.
The BCB did not think about his leave after verbally asking for leave
before announcing the squad for the New Zealand tour. Leaving him, the selectors
announced a team of 18 people. Chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said in
this regard, Shakib did not tell us anything officially. So I have given the
team with the assumption that Shakib will remain.
Before announcing the squad, board president Nazmul Hasan Papon also
said the same thing, officially he (Shakib) did not say anything. But
unofficially he said. I said, to inform officially. Then the decision would be
taken.
