Barishal Takes First Win in BPL Beating Chattogram

Fortune Barishal beat Chattogram Challengers by four wickets in the opening match of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League 2022 in Dhaka on Friday to take home the first two points of the tournament, reports media.

Batting first, Chattogram managed to put up 125-8 on board, courtesy of a late blast from Benny Howell.

In reply, Barishal had some ups and downs throughout their chase, but a late cameo from Ziaur Rahman ensured that they won with eight balls in hand.

Winning the toss, Barishal skipper Shakib Al Hasan put Chattogram in and despite opener, Kennar Lewis starting off with a six against Nayeem Hasan in the first ball of the innings, he holed out a couple of deliveries later.

That opener the floodgates, and none of their batsmen could stick around for long. They were set to not even get past 120, but Howell scored 41 off 20 deliveries to take them to 125.

Alzarri Joseph picked up three wickets for Barishal, with Nayeem picking two. Shakib picked up one, but he gave away only nine runs in his four overs.

In reply, Barishal lost opener Najmul Hossain Shanto and skipper Shakib within the powerplay to Chattogram captain Mehidy Hasan.

Shykat Ali though, was guiding them towards a fairly easy run chase, despite Towhid Hridoy being sent back by Mukidul Islam Mugdho.

But on came Mehidy again, and in his final over, he got rid of Shykat and Irfan Sukkur, before Salman Hossain was run out.

That left Barishal with jitters, but the experienced duo of Dwayne Bravo and Ziaur put together 34 runs off 22 deliveries to take them home.
