The recent resignation of Sheikh Hasina has triggered significant changes across various sectors in Bangladesh, including the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Nazmul Hassan Papon, the current President of the BCB, has indicated his intention to resign from his position. He communicated this decision to a senior BCB director via phone while abroad.
An anonymous BCB director confirmed that Papon had agreed to step down and also support the board's reformation. This was discussed in a recent meeting with 7-8 active BCB directors, where Papon’s resignation was mentioned.
Reports suggest that Papon may have fled to London following the government change, but according to the BCB constitution, he must formally resign to the board, which then needs to approve it in a meeting.
There are concerns among some directors that these changes could affect Bangladesh’s ability to host the Women’s T20 World Cup in October, with the ICC expected to finalize the venue decision on August 20.
Papon, who has been serving his fourth term as BCB president, first assumed the role in 2012 after being nominated by the government. He was later elected as a board director in 2013 and selected as president by the board.
