During the Kanpur Test, Bangladeshi supporter "Tiger Robi" was reportedly assaulted by Indian fans, leading to his hospitalization. However, Indian authorities dismissed his claims, stating they found no evidence of such an attack. Hours later, Robi went live from his hospital bed, refuting the Indian administration's statements and recounting the incident.
On September 27, while lying in the hospital, Robi addressed his friends on Facebook, saying, “You’ve seen the media has already spread false propaganda about me. I haven’t slept since last night. I went to the field and, while coming down from the second floor to gate number six, I was punched in the back two or three times. If you don’t believe me, you can talk to Milon Bhai from Daily Cricket, who was there. Later, the Indian supporter apologized to me.”
Despite being hospitalized, Robi claimed to feel better and asked for prayers from his countrymen. He stated that he was attacked from behind, causing him to become ill, but he is now recovering. In a follow-up post, he expressed his reliance on God for justice, saying, "I leave everything to Allah. He has surely seen what happened to me today."
Robi asserted, “I swear by my ailing mother on my deathbed that I haven’t told a single lie. I was indeed attacked, and that is the truth.” He lamented how both the Indian authorities and some journalists in his own country misrepresented him. He thanked media personnel for initially bringing him recognition but felt they had unjustly tarnished his reputation.
Concluding his message, Robi stated that he may never again appear as "Tiger Robi." He reflected on the incident, wishing it upon no one, not even his enemies. He acknowledged his lack of education and how it may have led to misunderstandings about his character. He emphasized his love for Bangladesh cricket and the national flag, despite the backlash he received.
He expressed sorrow that he was branded a liar, stating that if he were truly dishonest, he would have apologized for the sake of his love for cricket. Robi declared that he was not guilty of any wrongdoing and that his pain was compounded by the misunderstanding from his fellow countrymen.
Finally, he offered his prayers and best wishes for Bangladesh cricket, announcing his withdrawal from the sport. He noted that if he ever felt compelled, he might return to a stadium as a regular spectator.
