The court has issued a travel ban on former captain of the Bangladesh cricket team and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Manikganj-1, Naimur Rahman Durjoy, and his wife, Farhana Rahman.
On Thursday, October 3, Dhaka's Metropolitan Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad As Samas Jaglul Hossain passed the order following an application from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On this day, the ACC filed a petition for their travel ban, stating that Naimur Rahman Durjoy is under investigation for allegations of power abuse, recruitment malpractice, and various irregularities and corruption that involve misappropriating public funds for acquiring assets beyond known income in his and his family's names. The investigation is deemed critical for the state's interests in preventing money laundering.
During the investigation, it was discovered through confidential sources that the accused individuals were attempting to flee the country. If they manage to escape, there is a significant risk that the investigation could be prolonged or hindered.
Previously, a travel ban was also imposed on former MP for Bogura-2, Shariful Islam Jinnah, and former Cabinet Secretary Kabir Bin Anwar. On October 1, following an application from the ACC, the court issued the order under the same judge, Mohammad As Samas Jaglul Hossain.
