The International Cricket Council (ICC) has not yet reached a final decision regarding the 2025 Champions Trophy. The resolution is stalled due to a lack of agreement between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The issue revolves around the Indian cricket team's participation in matches in Pakistan. On Friday (November 29), the ICC held a virtual meeting to discuss the matter. However, the meeting, which lasted just 15 minutes, did not lead to any effective solution. The meeting was attended by the heads of the 12 full-member countries and representatives from 3 associate nations.
After the meeting, representatives from the member countries expressed hope that a final decision on the Champions Trophy venue could be made based on three potential options: the first being a hybrid model where most of the tournament matches would take place in Pakistan, but India’s matches would be held outside Pakistan. The second option is for the tournament to be held outside Pakistan, but with Pakistan retaining the hosting rights. The third option is for the entire tournament to take place in Pakistan, excluding India.
ICC officials announced that the board members will meet again tomorrow to try to make progress. However, if the deadlock persists, the ICC may resort to a voting process to decide the future of the tournament.
