On Friday, December 20, Bangladesh advanced to the final of the Women’s Under-19 Asia Cup by defeating Nepal in the Super Four stage. The match, reduced to 11 overs due to rain, set a target of 55 runs for the Bangladesh team. The team reached the target with 7 balls to spare, losing just 1 wicket. Bangladesh won by 9 wickets and will face India in the final on Sunday.

In the Women’s Asia Cup, played in the T20 format, the Bangladesh team put up an impressive performance. The junior Tigers had earlier stunned India by restricting them to just 139 runs after setting a target of 199 in the ODI format. However, the women’s tournament is in the T20 format, and it remains to be seen whether they can lift the trophy.

Bangladesh, as the Group A champions, had faced a heavy loss to India in the Super Four, which created uncertainty about their qualification for the final. However, Sri Lanka’s victory over Nepal resolved that uncertainty. Before losing to India, Bangladesh’s match against Sri Lanka had been abandoned due to rain. After that, the Junior Tigresses only needed a win to secure their place in the final, which they achieved comfortably.

In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the match was shortened to 11 overs due to rain. Nepal managed to score just 54 runs after losing 8 wickets. Four of Nepal’s players were run out, with Sabitri Dhami being the top scorer with 11 runs. None of the other players reached double figures. Farzana Yasmin, Anisa Akterma Fahmida Choha, and Habiba Islam took one wicket each for Bangladesh.

With the bat, Choha, Mosammat Eva, and Sumaiya Akter confirmed the win for Bangladesh with 9 wickets in hand and 7 balls to spare. Choha scored 26 off 32 balls, Eva made 18 off 21 balls, and Sumaiya hit 10 runs off 6 balls. Bangladesh will now face India in the final at the same venue.
