The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has directed to add unused data to the next package after the completion of the mobile internet package.

This information was given in a presentation on 'Mobile Data Package Guidelines' at a program on BTRC on Tuesday (November 9).

According to the BTRC, under the new rules, unused data will be added to the next package after the expiration of a customer's package, if the customer buys the same data package before the expiration of that package. The new rule, in this case, is that unused data will be added even if it is of a different duration. Unused data would be added if one bought a package of the same duration for so many days. This guideline will be effective from March 1.

All mobile operators in the country will have three types of packages — regular, customer-centric special packages and research and development packages. The maximum number of packages will be 85, including regular and customer-centric special packages of one operator. However, none of these can be more than 50 alone.

Mobile phone operators will be able to use a maximum of 10 packages for research and development work. The minimum difference between the two packages will be 100 MB of data or 10 minutes of talk time or both. All packages must be valid for 3, 7, 15 or 30 days.

After launching any regular package, the minimum durability of the package will be one month. After launching any customer-centric special package, the minimum duration of that package will be seven days. In this case, the mobile operators will be able to launch new customer-centric special packages 15 days after the cancellation of those customer-centric special packages.

The BTRC has asked the operators to publish the list of all regular packages offered by the mobile operators on the website of the respective mobile operators for the convenience of the customers.

Customers will have to provide monthly recharge and expenditure details to operators via SMS (Bangla) and to mobile operators through billing portals.

Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mustafa Jabbar, BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder, Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications Md Khalilur Rahman and representatives of mobile operators were present at the program arranged by the BTRC.
