Meta has launched its new smart glasses, Orion. Previously, Meta released a smart glass, but this time it is introducing augmented reality (AR) technology for the first time. The glasses come with numerous new features, with the most notable being the integration of AI technology.
The Orion display is custom-designed by Meta and features a micro LED projector inside the frame that displays graphics in front of your eyes via waveguides. The lenses are made of silicon carbide instead of plastic or glass, offering high durability, lightweight design, and excellent optical clarity, ensuring soft light from the projector enhances your vision.
Here are some standout features of Meta's new Orion smart glasses:
1. AR Technology
Advanced augmented reality features that help users integrate virtual elements with the real world.
2. Photo and Video Recording
The Meta Orion smart glasses allow users to capture high-quality photos and videos.
3. Voice Control
Users can perform various tasks through voice commands, and the glasses can even be controlled with hand gestures.
4. Navigation
An inbuilt navigation system helps users easily find their destinations by displaying necessary information like maps and notifications directly in front of them.
5. Social Media Integration
Users can directly share content on social media platforms. While wearing the glasses, you can read and respond to messages from Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.
6. Audio Features
The glasses come with built-in speakers and a microphone, allowing users to make calls and listen to music. You can send messages or use apps without needing to take out your phone.
7. Lightweight Design
Weighing only 98 grams, the glasses are comfortable to wear for extended periods without discomfort.
Additionally, users can scan QR codes and a 3D game is pre-installed. You can make video calls without having to pull out your smartphone, as this can all be done directly through the smart glasses.
The hardware for Orion consists of three components: the glasses themselves, a "neural wristband" for control, and a wireless computing pack similar to a large battery pack for a phone. The glasses do not require a phone or laptop to function; you can control them using eye movements, hand gestures, voice commands, or the neural wristband.
