Tourism Ban on Bandarban’s 2 Upazilas Extended till Nov 20

Against the backdrop of ongoing security drive against terrorists and some untoward incidents, the ban on travel to Rowangchhari and Ruma upazilas of Bandarban hill district has been extended till November 20.

Besides, after Alikadam upazila of the district, the tourism ban on Thanchi has also been lifted, said a notification signed by Bandarban District Commissioner Yasmin Parveen Tibriji this evening.

With this, the period of ban on tourist travel in Rowanchari and Ruma upazilas was extended for the seventh time.  

Tourists’ travel from travelling to Rowangchhari, Ruma, Thanchi, and Alikadam in Bandarban is being banned due to security reasons and showing public interest as well, the notification added.

Earlier, tourists travel was banned from the night of October 17 to Ruma and Rowanchari and from October 23 to October 30 to Thanchi and Alikadam. 

The ban on Alikadam was lifted from Nov 9 to Nov 12 after the travel ban in these four upazilas till November 8.

 However, the ban was extended in Rowanchari and Ruma upazilas from November 13 to November 20.

Tourism ban on Rowanchari and Ruma would continue for another four days from November 17 (tomorrow) after lifting the ban on tourists travel  in Thanchi.

On October 20, anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a total 10 people, including seven people of the new militant outfit Jama'atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya and three operatives of the Pahagi Separatist Organization, from different areas of Bandarban and Rangamati.

A huge amount of arms and ammunitions were recovered from them._BSS
