An Iranian research student detained 13 months ago in Australia on charges of exporting military equipment to Iran is back to Tehran, Press TV reported on Saturday.

Reza Dehbashi Kivi, a 38-year-old Iranian Ph.D. student at the University of Queensland in Brisbane of Australia, was arrested for allegedly "attempting to purchase and transfer advanced American military radar equipment via Dubai to Iran," Press TV said.

"Australia's legal system intended to extradite Dehbashi to America, but he was eventually released" as Iran's Foreign Ministry "resolved" the issue, it added.

The news of Dehbashi's release came shortly after Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne on Saturday confirmed that an Australian couple detained in Iran on spying charges were released.

According to Iran's judiciary, Australian Mark Firkin and British-Australian Jolie King were detained almost three months ago in Iran over accusations of flying a drone and taking pictures of "military sites and forbidden areas."
