The spread of coronavirus has led to major changes in higher education across the globe, with several universities embracing virtual tuition as a way of allowing students to start learning.
Yet the U.S. immigration authorities have now confirmed that foreign students- whose classes are entirely online this autumn- may face a visa cancellation.
The advisory said that when students moved to face-to-face classes, they could be deported.
The decision has created confusion and concern for the hundreds of thousands of foreign students who depend on US student visas.
