In India's Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah's National Conference and Congress alliance has won in the legislative assembly elections. Meanwhile, the BJP is set to form its government for the third consecutive time in Haryana. The final results for both assembly elections were largely available by the evening after counting began on Tuesday morning, October 8. Each of the two assemblies has a total of 90 seats.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference and Congress alliance secured 48 seats, while the BJP won 29 seats. The People's Democratic Party (PDP), led by Mehbooba Mufti, who was the Chief Minister before the abrogation of Article 370—which provided special constitutional protections to the region—performed poorly, winning only three seats. The Aam Aadmi Party and CPI(M) each won one seat. Additionally, seven independent candidates and one regional party candidate won seats.
In Haryana, the BJP obtained 48 seats, while Congress won 36. The Lok Dal secured two seats, and independent candidates won three seats.
This marks the first time in Haryana that a single party is set to form a government for three consecutive terms.
Exit polls had suggested that no party or alliance would achieve a clear majority in Jammu and Kashmir, while they predicted that Congress would come to power in Haryana. However, these predictions have proven to be completely incorrect.
