Step Taken to Make Bangladesh Envoys More Accountable

The Government has taken the initiative to make Bangladeshi envoys abroad more accountable and expedite their efforts to develop a country that ensures proper care for Bangladeshi expatriates.

The envoys will place their three-year plans to the Parliamentary Standing Committee, outlining how such plans will be executed.

The decision was made at the latest Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting of the Ministry of foreign affairs, MoFA said on Monday.

As part of the process, newly appointed Bangladeshi ambassadors to Japan and Romania presented their three-year planning to the parliamentary body outlining how they will work for expatriates and specific programs for expatriates.

Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said the government initiative will help to improve the accountability of the envoys.

Minister of State for foreign affairs M Shahriar Alam and other members of the Committee were present at a meeting with Faruk Khan, MP, chairing the board.

Bangladesh envoys abroad have been given necessary directives on how the country's development can be expedited through their efforts.

Dr. Momen said that financial and food assistance have been sent to expatriates so that no one goes hungry.

He said steps are being made to ensure that Bangladeshi expatriates earn six months' salaries and other compensation if a worker loses a job.
