Senior Journalist Faruk Quazi Passes Away

Faruk Quazi, a senior journalist, died in his home here this morning at the age of 71.

He breathed his last at 8:00 a.m. as he was sleeping at his Elephant road residence in the city.

Faruk Quazi’s only daughter Software Engineer Arshee Quazi said, “My father had leg pain for last two weeks and finally he felt pain near his waist. After that, he was taken to doctor and he was diagnosed with kidney problems after conducting tests. Then the doctor gave him pain relaxer drug. My father was in sleep for long 58 hours due to the effect of that drug and he was found dead in sleep this morning”.

He is survived by wife, a daughter as well as a host of relatives and admirers.

The President and Prime Minister of the Awami League, Sheik Hasina, expressed profound shock and sorrow at Faruk Quazi 's death.

He worked for the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangsha (BSS) national news agency and the United News Bangladesh (UNB) private news agency.

He worked as a press minister at the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi and as a former Deputy Press Secretary (DPS) to the Prime Minister.

Before his death, he was an associate editor and In-charge (news) of the daily observer.

Faruk Quazi will be buried at Shahid Buddhijibi Graveyard in Mirpur following his namaj-e-Janaza at Kataban mosque after jummah prayers today.
