DNCC to Launch Anti-Mosquito Special Drive Saturday: Mayor

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam has declared that a special clean-up operation to prevent dengue outbreaks will be carried out in every ward under the DNCC from Saturday.

Atiqul Islam disclosed the information at a video conference on Friday.

The 10-day move will take place every day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., except Friday, and each division will be split into 10 sectors.

The DNCC will operate daily in one sector of each ward, which means 10 sub-sectors per day. Each DNCC team will have four cleaners and one mosquito eradication worker, he said.

Forty cleaners and 10 mosquito eradication workers will work in every ward, he said.

In the move, a map will be drawn up with a number of the houses and commercial establishments where Aedes larvae and breeding grounds are to be located.

In addition, the mobile court drives would be held parallel to the unique drive by the executive magistrates, said Mayor Atiqul.

He also urged the ward councillors, media people and residents of DNCC to corporate with the drive.

The country had a massive dengue outbreak last year when 101,354 people were hospitalised. Of them, 101,037 made full recovery. According to official figures, the mosquito-borne disease killed 179 people in 2019.
