Mbappe Out ‘Three Weeks’ And Doubtful for Atalanta Tie

Kylian Mbappe will be out for "around three weeks" after twisting his hamstring in the French Cup final, expected to keep him out of the Paris Saint-Germain Champions League quarter-final versus Atalanta on August 12.

In the first half of Friday's 1-0 victory over Saint-Etienne, France limped off following a horrible battle that ended in a red card against Captain Loic Perrin.

PSG said Monday, medical testing validated the early test findings of the right ankle sprained, with Mbappe still suffering ligament injury.

The club suggested that the planned timeframe for his return was "around three weeks," indicating that he will miss the final of the French League Cup versus Lyon on Friday.

The diagnosis also leaves Mbappe a huge doubt for PSG’s resumption of their Champions League campaign, although the 21-year-old could be fit to return for the semi-finals if Thomas Tuchel’s side advance.

The latter stages of the European football club's signature competition must be held in a special straight knockout tournament in Lisbon owing to the problems created by the coronavirus pandemic.

PSG versus Atalanta will be the first quarter-final of the 'Super Eight' mini-tournament at the Stadio da Luz, with the semi-finals set for August 18-19 and the finals set for August 23.
