The 'moderate' category for air quality in Dhaka was still in effect on Friday morning. At 9:12 am, Dhaka has an air quality index (AQI) score of 55, placing it 44th out of all the cities in the globe.

According to IQAir, the top three cities on the list were Kampala, Uganda; Algiers, Algeria; and Lahore, Pakistan, with AQI values of 155; 154; and 153, respectively.

An AQI score between 50 and 100 is considered ‘moderate’ with acceptable air quality. However, there may be a health concern for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.

Between 150 and 200 is deemed "unhealthy," 201 and 300 is deemed "very unhealthy," and a reading of 301 or more is deemed "hazardous," offering significant health hazards to locals.

Particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone are the five criterion pollutants on which Bangladesh's air quality index (AQI) is based.

Air pollution has always been a problem in Dhaka. Usually, the winter is when the air quality becomes bad, and the monsoon is when it gets better.

One of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide continues to be air pollution.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution claims the lives of seven million people annually.
