The air quality in Dhaka remained "moderate" this morning.

Dhaka was the seventh worst city in the world at 9:35 am, according to the air quality index (AQI), with a score of 94.

With AQI scores of 152, 145, and 144, respectively, the top three cities on the list were Kuching in Malaysia, Lahore in Pakistan, and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

An air quality index (AQI) of 50 to 100 is considered to be "moderate." However, a very small proportion of people who are extremely sensitive to air pollution may experience health issues.

In Bangladesh, the AQI is based on five criteria pollutants: particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2 and Ozone.

Dhaka has long grappled with air pollution issues. Its air quality usually turns unhealthy in the winter and improves during the monsoon.

Air pollution consistently ranks among the top risk factors for death and disability worldwide.

As per the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution kills an estimated seven million people worldwide every year.
