As winter continues to strengthen its hold, the Meteorological Department has conveyed unsettling information to citizens nationwide, foreseeing a further decline in both daytime and nighttime temperatures within the next 24 hours. Compounding the weather-related challenges, rain is predicted for four regions on Wednesday (Jan 24), exacerbating the difficulties faced by those already contending with harsh winter conditions.

Omar Farooq, a meteorologist from the Department of Meteorology, issued the forecast on Monday (Jan 22) at 9 a.m., cautioning the public to prepare for more severe weather conditions in the upcoming days.

As per the 24-hour forecast, the country is expected to experience dry weather with intermittent partly cloudy skies. However, there is an anticipation of moderate to dense fog from midnight until morning, lingering until noon in certain areas.

This dense fog poses a potential threat to disrupt air travel, inland water transportation, and road connectivity, further complicating daily life for residents.

Currently, a mild cold spell is sweeping through Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, impacting districts like Jessore, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Tangail, Madaripur, and Kishoreganj. This weather pattern is likely to persist over the next 24 hours, resulting in a decrease of 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in nighttime temperatures and a slight dip in daytime temperatures nationwide.

Looking forward to January 23, the forecast suggests dry weather with temporary partly cloudy skies prevailing. Moderate to dense fog is anticipated from midnight to morning, accompanied by a minor increase in nighttime temperatures and relatively unchanged daytime temperatures across the country.

The most noteworthy development is in the forecast for January 24, with rain expected in Dhaka, Barisal, Khulna, and Chattogram divisions. The rest of the country is anticipated to experience mainly dry weather with partly cloudy skies.

Additionally, river basins are likely to experience moderate to dense fog, while other regions may encounter light to moderate fog from midnight to morning. Night temperatures could undergo a slight increase, coupled with a decrease in daytime temperatures across the nation.

Looking ahead to the next five days, the weather forecast indicates a continuous decline in nighttime temperatures, posing an ongoing challenge for residents already contending with the winter cold.

As of today, Monday, the lowest recorded temperature in the country stands at 8.1 degrees Celsius in Badalgachi and Dinajpur, while Teknaf reports the highest temperature at 27.6 degrees Celsius. Given the persisting challenging weather conditions, it is strongly advised for individuals to stay informed and take necessary precautions to effectively navigate the winter challenges.
