Chuadanga experienced its highest temperature of the season today, reaching 42.7ºC around 3:00 pm on Friday, with a humidity level of only 11 percent, according to Rakibul Hasan, senior observer at the Chuadanga Meteorological Office. This marks the highest temperature recorded in the district this season nationwide.

The scorching heat has caused the road surfaces to melt and has led to water shortages in many villages, impacting both agricultural activities and daily life. The vegetation, including crops and roadside trees, is suffering from the heat, with leaves drying up.

Moreover, the prolonged heatwave, now lasting for 15 consecutive days, has resulted in a surge in patients at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, with cases of fever, pneumonia, diarrhea, and respiratory issues on the rise. Despite the hospital having 250 beds, the shortage of doctors, with only half the required number, has strained medical services. Patients are even being treated in corridors and balconies due to bed shortages.

The intense heat has also affected the livelihoods of laborers, rickshaw pullers, and other low-income individuals, forcing many to seek refuge in shaded areas. Consequently, there's a decrease in outdoor activities as the day progresses.

Rakibul Hasan warned that temperatures in Chuadanga are expected to rise further until April 30, urging caution when venturing outdoors.

Dr. Kissinger Chakma, Chuadanga's Deputy Commissioner, emphasized the importance of heeding heat alerts to prevent heatstroke and urged everyone to take necessary precautions.
