The Dhaka
Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested
five former students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST)
and handed them over to Sylhet Police.
On Tuesday (January
25), Sylhet Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Mohammad Nisharul Arif
confirmed the matter to media.
"The detainees
are on the way now," he said. A case is being prepared against them.
Two of the
detainees have been identified. They are Reza Noor Moin, a former student of SUST's
Architecture Department and Habibur Rahman of CSE Department.
Earlier, law
enforcers picked them up from different parts of the capital.
Family and friends
of the detained students allege that they have been detained for providing some
financial support to the ongoing movement of SUST demanding the resignation of
the VC.
According to a CID
source, other police units often seek CID assistance. This is actually an
operation of Sylhet Metropolitan Police. The CID only helped them.
Shah Razi Siddique,
a former student of SUST, told the media that Habibur Rahman is my roommate for
the last two and a half years. He was picked up by CID personnel from Sector 6
of Uttara last night.
He also said
Habib's family's financial situation was not good. His parents live in Tangail.
Yesterday Habib got a visa to go to Germany. Hae got a job in a software
company there. Reza's child, on the other hand, is very young.
Meanwhile, CID
Additional Superintendent of Police Azad Rahman told the media that the CID had
not made any arrests.
