Bangladesh
Chhatra Odhikar Parishad held a rally at Dhaka University (DU) on the third
anniversary of the killing of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET)
student Abrar Fahad. Chhatra League leaders and activists attacked that
gathering.
Meanwhile,
BCL activists vandalized chairs and microphones at the gathering place.
Banner-festoons were also burnt. The rally called by the Bangladesh Chhatra
Odhikar Parishad has become a mess.
The
incident took place at Raju Sculpture of the university on Friday (October 7)
afternoon.
The
leaders of the organization claimed that several activists of Bangladesh
Chhatra Odhikar Parishad were injured in the incident, but the name of one of
the injured has been known so far. He is Zahid Ahsan, Literary Editor of DU
branch of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad.

Central Committee Vice-President MM Mohin Uddin, Joint General Secretary Mahbub
Khan, Organizer Nazim Uddin, Private University Affairs Secretary Al Amin Rahman,
Deputy Secretary Shimul Khan, Abdur Rahim, Zahurul Haque Hall BCL President Kamal
Uddin Rana and the hall general secretary Rubel Hossain led the attack in the
rally.
Hundreds of leaders and activists from different levels of central, university and hall branches of Chhatra League participated with them.
Meanwhile,
Chhatra League claimed that Nazim Uddin, organizing secretary of the Central
Committee of Chhatra League, was injured during the incident.
Mahbub
Khan, joint general secretary of the Central Committee of the Chhatra League,
involved in the attack, said, "They (Chatra Adhikar Parishad leaders and
activists) organize programs with the outsiders and fundamentalists in the
campus. We go to ask them, are they university students? Meanwhile they
attacked us without showing anything. Later the general students of the
university resisted them.

Fahad murder at a glance
Abrar
Fahad was a second-year student in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Department at BUET. Lived in room number 1011 of Sherebangla Hall.
On
the night of October 6, 2019, Abrar Fahad was called from his room by some
leaders and activists of the BUET branch Chhatra League for posting a status on
Facebook criticizing various agreements between Bangladesh and India.
Later,
around 3 pm, his body was recovered from the corridor of the second floor of
the Sherebangla Hall. The next day, on October 7, the autopsy of Abrar's body
was conducted at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue.
In
that incident, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19
people at Chawkbazar police station. Later investigation revealed the involvement
of some others in this case.
On
December 8, 2021, 20 people were sentenced to death and five were sentenced to
life imprisonment in this case by Judge Abu Jafar Md. of Dhaka Speedy Trial
Tribunal-1. Kamruzzaman.
