2,29,609 Tonnes Vegetables Production Likely in Narsingdi

The Department of Agriculture (DAE) Narsingdi has set a goal of producing 2,29,609 tons of winter vegetables from 9983 hectares of land in all six Upazilas districts during the current Robi season.

The DAE officials said farmers started to grow early winter vegetables in their home garden and other highlands since mid-October last, reports BSS.

Considering the demand for vegetables the DAE has fixed a record production target of winter vegetables, Deputy Director of DAE Narsingdi Shovan Kumar Dhar told the BSS correspondent at his office yesterday.

He said that if the favorable climate conditions prevailed for a few weeks, the above-mentioned production would be achieved, he said that the DAE, Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation, Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute are providing quality seeds, training and other agri-inputs to farmers for more vegetables this season.

Besides, the commercial banks are disbursing easy-term agriculture loans among the farmers.

Various types of winter vegetables, such as Bean, Brinjal, Cauliflower, Cabbage Radish, Lalshak, Poishak, Palongshak, Gourd, Potato, Cucumber, Tomato, Coriander, etc., are abundant in the district of Shibpur, Belabo Raipura, Monohardi, Sadar and Polash.

The districts of Narsingdi, a vegetable surplus area, typically supply 30 to 40 per cent of their production to the capital and other districts after meeting local demand.
